Project Learning Tree: 
Environmental Education Activity Guide 
Using the forest as a window on the world, Project Learning Tree aims to increase students’ understanding of our complex environment and stimulate critical and creative thought.  Their comprehensive activity guide contains hundreds of activities arranged under 5 themes:  Diversity, Interrelationships, Systems, Structure and Scale, and Patterns and Change.  Areas such as science, language, social studies, art, music and physical education are integrated into these 5 themes.  Each activity is clearly presented and highlights skills and concepts, materials required and time needed.

The Forests of Europe 
This is part of an educational kit called Tellus produced by the Conseil Européen des Jeunes Agriculteurs (CEJA) or European Council of Young Farmers represents the voice of young farmers in Europe.  The Tellus kit explores the agricultural origin of everyday products, the great diversity of European agriculture and the realities of the farming world.  Part of the materials deal with forestry.  The materials have been produced in 11 European languages and can be easily accessed from the website below.  Choose your language, go into the Teachers' pages and look for Book 5 on Forestry. The book looks at the history of forests, the different kinds of forests in Europe, the uses of wood as well as the various threats to forests.  It also contains a selection of interesting maps and graphs.

The Good Seed Guide 

A comprehensive guide that claims to contain all you need to know about growing trees from seed.  To assist with seed identification the guide distinguishes between different kinds of seeds: nuts, fleshy fruits, winged seeds and conifers.  It also contains a detailed section on growing trees from seed.

Trees, Hedges and Water 

This book looks at the impact of non-forest trees on water resources.
